Great Abaco Island is located at the northern tip of the Bahamas, about 86 km south of the capital, Nassau. The island is about 160 kilometers long and 22 kilometers wide, with a total area of about 1,681 square kilometers. The island is low and flat, with a zigzag coastline and many bays. The climate is mild and pleasant, and the forest resources are rich. The economy of Great Abaco is mainly dependent on tourism, agriculture and fishing, especially citrus cultivation and fishing. There are also large vegetable farms, shipyards, pulp mills and fruit canning factories. Major cities include Marsh Harbour, which is the third largest city in the Bahamas and has an airport.
