The island of Aitutaki is located in the south of the Cook Islands in the south-central Pacific Ocean, with an area of 18.1 square kilometers and a population of about 2,410. The island consists of Aitutaki Atoll and a number of small cays, with the atoll reaching 140 meters high. It is fertile and is a major producer of bananas and citrus in the Cook Islands, as well as a well-known fishing island. The main settlement is Arutanga on the west coast, with a small harbor and an airport in the north.
