Robben Island is located in Table Bay, Western Cape Province, South Africa. It is a small island in the South Atlantic Ocean, 11 kilometers from Cape Town. It has a rich history and was once a place where leaders of the resistance movement and political prisoners were imprisoned. Nelson Mandela served 18 years in prison here. It was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1999 and is now open as a museum, telling the history of apartheid and resistance.
