Mount Meru, located in northern Tanzania about 70 kilometers from the town of Arusha, is the tenth highest peak in Africa at 4,566 meters. It is an active volcano with the most recent eruption occurring in 1910. Its mountain has partially collapsed due to the eruption, creating a unique landform. The area around Meru Volcano is ecologically rich, inhabited by monkeys, leopards and over 400 species of birds. It is a popular destination for trekking and mountaineering, and climbers need to be skilled to enjoy the magnificent natural scenery along the way.
