The Teatro Tomas Terry, located in the city of Cienfuegos in south-central Cuba, was built in 1890 as one of the eight major theaters of the Cuban colonial period. Its architecture incorporates the Italian horseshoe theater style, with 950 seats and an ornate interior with 23 allegorical paintings on the ceiling symbolizing dawn, laughter and sorrow. The theater has welcomed international artists such as Sarah Bernhardt and Enrico Caruso to perform and is now a national cultural heritage.
