GreenGrottoCaves is located in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. It is a carbonate cave system several kilometers long, famous for the emerald green algae on the cave walls. The cave is full of stalactites, stalagmites, light holes and bat habitats. The most spectacular is the underground "Grotto Lake" which is about 12 meters deep and 1,525 meters long. Historically, it was a hiding place for Taino aborigines, escaped Spaniards, slaves and smugglers, and was even used to store rum during World War II. It is now open for guided tours every day and is suitable for families, explorers and geology enthusiasts.
