Teatro Degollado

Teatro Degollado

Located in the center of Guadalajara, Mexico, the Teatro Degollado is a neo-classical building that was built in 1854 and officially opened in 1870. The theater was named after Juan José Martínez de Horozco y Coso, a hero of the 19th-century Mexican War of Independence, who was known as “Degollado” (the one with his throat cut) because of the wounds he received in battle. The theater's building has a stately and elegant exterior and an ornate interior with beautiful sculptures and bas-reliefs. The Degollado Theater is not only a place to enjoy the performing arts, but it is also an excellent place to experience Mexican culture and history.
