Cathedral Basilica of St. Lawrence is located across from Plaza 24 de Septiembre in the center of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, and is the city's most important Catholic church. Originally built during the colonial period by the Mercedarian friar Diego de Porres, it was rebuilt in 1770 by Bishop Ramán de Elbosos. In 1838, under Marshal Andrés de Santa Cruz, the French architect Felipe Beltres designed the present eclectic style church. The church is known for its wooden vaults and beautifully patterned decorations, and the main altar retains the original carved silver from the Jesuit mission of San Pedro de Moxos.
