Plaza 24 de Septiembre is the central plaza of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, built nearly 500 years ago, around which an entire city grid has developed. Named after the independence movement of September 24, 1810, the plaza symbolizes the historical and cultural core of the city. Surrounded by important buildings such as the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Town Hall and the House of Culture, the plaza is surrounded by greenery and a peaceful atmosphere. It is not only a place of recreation for the citizens, but also the main venue for artistic performances, social gatherings and political events. In the center of the square stands the statue of Ignacio Varnes, a hero of the War of Independence, highlighting its historical significance.
