The Barranquilla Carnival is the largest folk festival in Colombia and one of the largest carnivals in the world. It is held in February and March every year, four days before the Christian Lent, and was listed as a "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2003. The carnival combines European, African and local cultures, with rich dance, music and mask performances. During the period, the streets are full of floats, dancers, and music. From the flower war to the grand parade, band competition, and the end of Joselito's funeral, the whole process is extraordinary and intoxicating in the unique style of Colombia.
