The Sabaki Estuary is located about 5 km north of Malindi, Kenya, where the Athi-Galana-Sabaki River meets the sea. The estuary area of about 6 square kilometers includes sandbars, mudflats, dunes, mangroves and freshwater pools. Due to the migration of migratory birds, it has been listed as an Important Bird Area (IBA). 68 species of birds have been recorded, with a peak number of more than 10,000, including great white storks, pelicans, gulls, terns and flamingos. The romantic scenery of the Yellow River and the blue sea is also amazing. The rich ecosystem of the estuary also provides livelihoods for local people such as fishing, mangrove timber and ecotourism.
