Teatro La Caridad is located in Parque Vidal Park in Santa Clara, Cuba. It was built in 1885 with donations from philanthropist Marta Abreu. This neoclassical theater is one of the eight major theaters during the colonial period. It has a simple and solemn exterior and luxurious interior decoration: three-story horseshoe-shaped auditorium, marble lobby, and exquisite ceiling murals depicting genius, history, comedy and tragedy. For more than a hundred years, it has hosted countless national stage performances, attracting performances by famous artists such as Caruso, Alicia Alonso, and Jorge Negrete. It was listed as a Cuban national monument in 1982 and is still the most important cultural landmark in the area.
