Located in the center of Punta Arenas, Chile, the Magallanes Regional Museum, housed in the Palacio Braun-Menendez, built in 1903, is a cultural landmark that combines historical and architectural beauty. The mansion, designed by French architect Antoine Beaulier, was once the home of the Braun-Menendez family, a wealthy local merchant, and was donated by the family and converted into a museum in 1983. The museum's exhibits are divided into three sections: the main floor displays European-style furniture and décor from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, recreating the lives of the elite of the time; the History Room tells the story of Punta Arenas from the Age of Exploration to the modern day through artifacts, maps, and photographs; and the basement displays the kitchens, bathrooms, and other service spaces of the former mansion. The museum is not only a window into the history of the Magallanes region, but also reflects the evolution of the local society and culture.
