Historical Origin

Fukuoka Castle was built in 1600. After the Battle of Sekigahara, the shogunate awarded Kuroda Nagamasa the title of lord of Chikuzen 520,000 stones for his meritorious service. He then set about building this city, which took 7 years. Fukuoka Castle is a large-scale Hirayama Castle. Although it did not build a "castle tower", the three large, medium and small castellan towers and 47 watchtowers made it famous. This was once the residence of the Kuroda family, witnessing the prosperity and changes of Japan's Edo period. After wars and other destruction, only some stone walls, gates and watchtowers remain. However, this does not affect its status as a designated historical site in Japan. It has also been selected as one of the 100 famous castles in Japan, silently telling the glory of the past.
