Cerro Rico, meaning “rich mountain”, is located in the city of Potosi, Bolivia, and is one of the most famous silver mines in the world. Since the 16th century, the mountain has been a symbol of wealth during the Spanish colonial period due to its rich silver deposits, which helped make Potosí one of the most prosperous cities in South America at the time. Despite the depletion of its resources, Cerro Rico is still mined on a small scale today and has become an important site for learning about the colonial history and miners' culture, as well as being listed as a World Heritage Site.
