Sillustani is a pre-Inca archaeological site located near Puno, Peru, on the Lake Umayo Peninsula at an altitude of about 4,000 meters, about 34 kilometers from the city of Puno. The site is famous for its distinctive Chullpas cylindrical stone tower tombs, built by the Colla culture and later inherited by the Incas. The architecture of Chullpas is characterized by a smaller diameter at the base than at the top, challenging the norms of architectural balance. Often used for the burial of nobles or high-ranking individuals, these towers could contain the remains of an entire family and were accompanied by funerary objects such as gold and silver artifacts, pottery, and food, reflecting the belief in the afterlife. The entrance to Chupa always faces east, symbolizing the rebirth of the sun and ancestral ties. In addition, the crystal clear waters of Lake Umayo, with its breathtaking surroundings and an island that serves as a wildlife sanctuary, provide visitors with both a natural and cultural experience.
