Lae Rainforest Habitat is located within the Lae Institute of Technology campus, covering an area of approximately 3,000 square meters. It features a 11-meter-high shade net simulating the canopy of a tropical rainforest. The habitat is home to over 15,000 native and exotic plant species, as well as more than 30 bird species and various mammals and reptiles, including birds of paradise, crowned pigeons, hornbills, kangaroos, flying foxes, and frogs. The central pond is home to native fish and water turtles, while the adjacent marsh provides habitat for ducks. The famous saltwater crocodile “Agro” performs a feeding show every Tuesday and Thursday at noon. This project is part of the Unitech Community Development Program, providing income for over 1,200 villagers while also serving research and environmental education functions.
